Infant School Curriculum & Assessments
Our comprehensive curriculum and assessments ensure each student’s growth and achievement.
Throughout the early years at Al Maha Academy for Girls (AMAG), we believe every girl deserves the best possible start in life and with your support we can enable her to fulfil her full potential. Children develop quickly in the early years and a child’s experiences between birth and age five have a major impact on their future life chances. We aim to provide high quality early learning for our girls which incorporates Islamic values, while ensuring they have a secure, safe and happy childhood.
Infant Curriculum
At our academies we believe in the importance of building solid foundations so that students are well equipped with the skills and experiences necessary for the twenty first century and beyond. We want to ensure that our students are lifelong learners with attributes which are transferable to a range of situations and contexts.
At the heart of all that we do is a belief in strong moral values within an Islamic ethos. We believe in having respect for ourselves and each other so students will develop skills which will enable them to pro-actively contribute to society in a positive way.
We seek to develop students’ confidence, resilience and leadership skills so that they may become active and responsible citizens in a global world. Students will be encouraged to learn from mistakes and to maximise their potential. They will be encouraged to develop interests in activities beyond those in school. They will be encouraged to be creative and to develop independence so that they can become life-long learners and our future leaders.
Ta’allum Infant Schools offer a curriculum which is broad and balanced and which builds on the knowledge, understanding and skills of all children, whatever their starting points, as they progress through each Key Stage.
The Ta’allum EYFS and Year 1 and 2 Curriculum incorporates elements of the Key Stage 2 national curriculum in its focus on core skills and depth of understanding, as well as best international practice in its global and creative approach to topics. This, alongside the Qatar National Curriculum, taught through Arabic medium subjects, ensures that students retain a respect and understanding for their national and religious heritage and their native language. The Ta’allum Infant Curriculum aims to ensure that students develop great depth of understanding and competence in skills at the same time as taking account of their second language learning needs, their cultural heritage and the global perspective Ta’allum aims to inculcate in its students.

Comprehensive Assessment Approach
Assessment plays a key role in our teaching and learning process. It helps us track progress, identify individual learning needs, and provide targeted support to ensure that every child reaches their full potential.
Early Years Foundation Stage (Nursery & Reception)
In Nursery and Reception, we use the CEM (Cambridge) Baseline and End-of-Year Assessments to measure each child’s development and progress. These assessments provide valuable insights into early literacy, numeracy, and cognitive skills, helping teachers tailor instruction to support individual learning pathways.
Ongoing observational assessments are also conducted throughout the year, allowing teachers to capture a holistic picture of each child’s growth. Learning is documented through portfolios, classroom activities, and progress reports shared with parents.
Key Stage 1 (Year 1 & Year 2)
As students transition into Key Stage 1, we continue to build on their foundational skills while introducing more structured learning experiences. To monitor academic progress effectively, we implement the following assessments:
- Internal Assessments: Mid and End-of-Semester Exams assess understanding across core subjects, ensuring that students are on track with their learning objectives.
- End-of-Year GL Assessments: These standardized tests measure attainment and progress in English, Mathematics, and Science, providing valuable data to guide future learning.
Through continuous formative assessment, including teacher observations, classwork, and informal quizzes, we ensure that students receive the necessary support and challenge to excel.
A Holistic Learning Experience
Beyond academics, our Infant School places a strong emphasis on social-emotional development, critical thinking, and independent learning. We encourage active participation through group projects, hands-on experiments, storytelling, and role-play activities. Our classrooms are vibrant, inclusive, and nurturing spaces where every child feels valued and motivated to learn.
We also recognize the vital role of parental engagement in a child’s education. Regular parent-teacher meetings, workshops, and progress reports keep families informed and involved in their child’s learning journey.
Preparing for Future Success
By the end of Year 2, our students are well-equipped with the skills, knowledge, and confidence needed to transition smoothly into Key Stage 2. Our structured yet flexible approach ensures that each child develops a strong foundation for lifelong learning, preparing them for future academic success while fostering a love for discovery and exploration.
At Al Maha Academy for Girls, we take pride in nurturing young minds and shaping future leaders. Our Infant School curriculum and assessment framework are designed to support every child’s unique learning journey, ensuring they thrive in a stimulating and supportive environment.
